Fringed sage is a versatile, no-fuss perennial for difficult sites. Feathery silver branches make a perfect counterpoint to brightly colored perennials like blanket flower, penstemon, and hairy golden aster. Bonus: it smells great and can handle occasional trampling. Overwatered fringed sage tend to get very large and sprawly, so be prepared to cut them back periodically (which they don’t mind), or better yet don’t water them after they’ve established!
