Yarrow is a restoration workhorse that happily adapts to any sunny well-drained spot, and will tolerate moister shaded areas without much competition. Flat white inflorescences float above the prairie starting mid-summer. Even when it isn’t flowering, yarrow sports low bunches of pleasing fern-like leaves. Cultivars are commonly available, but many have earned reputations as garden bullies. Our wild-type variety is much less aggressive than those from garden centers, and will coexist peacefully in prairie and woodland plantings.
